The #BlogEngage Community, How Tweet It Is!

  • Sharebar

Blog Engage Hash Tag for TwitterThat’s quite a corny title, but have you heard the buzz making its way through the blogosphere about the Blog Engage community?  Recently, I said Goodbye Digg, Hello Blog Engage! following the example of many before me who made Blog Engage their blog submission directory of choice.

That hardly describes Blog Engage very well at all.  It’s so much more than just a simple directory.  It’s a very active community where the owner works tirelessly to promote the blogs that submit to his site.  Some members, like myself, have appreciated his efforts so much that we’ve taken up his cause as well.

The German Blitzkrieg Wit – “Brianstorming” Challenge

A "Brianstorming" SessionOne such member is the man from Hamburg, Will McCulloch of Whatawebsite.  This week, he challenged several members of the Blog Engage community to come together for a “Brianstorming” session (clever little German isn’t he) to help out Blog Engage’s owner Brian promote our community.

The more active I have become with Blog Engage the more comments and traffic I have received from its members.  I have had numerous of my blog posts published in the past few weeks (good luck getting that done on Digg or any other blog directory).

In fact, Blog Engage is now the dominant source of referral traffic to this site!  I’d encourage you to join the “Brianstorming” session and add your ideas.

The Lovely Ms. Ileane – A Real Go Giver

Someone you will see participating in the “brianstorming” session, and included in just about any effort to promote Blog Engage, is the lovely Ms. Ileane.

Ms. Ileane - A Real Go Giver for the Blog Engage CommunityIn An Introduction to Blog Engage, I shared a video that Brian had made for new users of the Blog Engage community.  What I didn’t know was that he was sparked into action by an earlier post by Ms. Ileane, Introduction: The Blog Engage Community [Video].

Not only that, but she has been very active on Twitter promoting Blog Engage.  She’s created a list of all the other active Blog Engage members, and you can follow it at @Ileane/blogengage.

It already has several followers, and she does a great job keeping it updated.  Like I said, she’s a real Go Giver!  Make sure you get to know her.

A Hash Tag of Our Own – #BlogEngage

She’s also started doing something in her tweets that I really like.  She adds the hash tag #BlogEngage when she is tweeting fellow member’s posts.  This brings me to the point of this post.

Let's Make #BlogEngage the Official Blog Engage Hash TagI would like to make #BlogEngage the official hash tag of the Blog Engage community.  Obviously, it will take more than just a handful of us to make this a meaningful hash tag.

We need the support of the entire Blog Engage community.  Can’t you just see #BlogEngage making it’s way up the Trending Topics on Twitter?

Won’t you please commit to using this hash tag whenever tweeting a fellow member’s post?  If so, please leave a brief comment below and we will make sure to add this hash tag when we tweet your posts.

I can't say too much about how I appreciate this right now because my eyes are watering….

Dnaa @ Online Knowledge December 10, 2009 at 11:24 pm

BlogEngage seems realy give great influence to your blog Brad.

Brad Harmon December 10, 2009 at 11:26 pm

You certainly deserve more than just this mention. Your efforts are very much appreciated. You keep coming up with great ideas. I am glad to shine the spotlight on one of them.

Brad Harmon December 10, 2009 at 11:28 pm

It really does! It's a very active community, and people like Will and Ileane go out of their way to make other members successful.

Sarge December 10, 2009 at 11:34 pm

I agree with Brad, Ileane you are doing wonderful things for the blogging and social media world. You've sparked me into action like using buzzom and blog engage which have been really beneficial for my blog. I wouldn't have even got that far if it wasn't for your persistent support.

You're onto great things :)

Brad Harmon December 10, 2009 at 11:41 pm

Just more examples of how she is a Go Giver! Let's make her #BlogEngage hash tag a reality! :)

Hi Brad ,

Fantastic, what a very good idea Ileane's #BlogEngage hashtag is – an absolutely “Brileane Brianwave” which will surely be taken up by more and more members. It's just the sort of “Brianwave” that I was hoping for with the not-so-German “Witzkrieg” ( Witz means joke over here )

Seriously though I think the “play on words” concept has been reasonably productive so far – and with a bit of luck the end will continue to justify the means. The second post in the “Brain” promotional series should get published this afternoon – and, fingers crossed, more good ideas will begin to show themselves for group use.

Hamburg is a fine place to visit by the way – and there'll be a big warm welcome here for any #BlogEngage member who pays a visit ( with summer being definitely the recommended weather option)

P.S. From Liverpool wiith “not a hint of German” – please visit my FB page for details!
P.P.S Nice images you've used … where do you find them?

Alison Moore Smith December 11, 2009 at 1:41 am

Well deserved praise, my friend.

Brad Harmon December 11, 2009 at 2:06 am

Wish I would have known about the Witzkrieg thing. ;)

I've never heard anything but good about Hamburg. Of course, I think most of those references came from Hogan's Heroes. I would love to visit Germany one day. I got the “not a hint of German,” but I don't get the Liverpool reference. Are you really not German?

Images likely came from istockphoto. About 90% of my images come from there, and some come from some stock photo cds I have. I usually grab images as I am browsing with the idea that one day they will make a great post image. I have a whole folder of nothing but images to be used. Sometimes I will just pick one and write a post around it.

Sorry for misspelling your name. I fixed it.

I like movements… I'm in! #BlogEngage

Karl Foxley December 11, 2009 at 6:31 am

Ms Ileane rocks and Will is a star. :) Two great people that certainly deserve the spotlight.

You can count me in with the whole # and I'll be going over revisiting my BlogEngage posts and adding the #blogengage as a tag.

To further support the movement I will be sure to not just vote for people's posts or to leave a comment (which is always appreciated) but to click as many of the 'sharing' buttons as possible.

Thanks for writing this Brad,

Alison Moore Smith December 11, 2009 at 6:40 am

Karl, great idea.

Robert Bravery December 11, 2009 at 7:15 am

Great post. I think it is a great idea to make the #blogengage hastag as the communities own. I will from now on endeavour to use it for community members.

It's all about promoting and engaging other bloggers is it not.
Promoting others you promote yourself.

Alison Moore Smith December 11, 2009 at 1:33 pm

It looks like BlogEngage just had a serious blowout.

All of our votes are listing at 0 on all the BE related blogs I've checked. When I try to login, the site says my username/password is incorrect.

Sounds like a database problem.

Shout out to Brian!

Brad Harmon December 11, 2009 at 3:07 pm

Thanks Brandon!

Brad Harmon December 11, 2009 at 3:08 pm

Yeah, I love it when people click my buttons. I'm sure others will as well.

Brad Harmon December 11, 2009 at 3:10 pm

I think that is exactly the spirit, Robert. Helping others. Sowing those seeds.

Brad Harmon December 11, 2009 at 3:11 pm

It's up now. Not sure what happened.

Robert Bravery December 11, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Yeah had a hard time logging in myself. But seems to be ok now, and the votes are back working again

Hesham December 11, 2009 at 4:02 pm

Nice idea, I have tweet it now! and I am going to include it as much as I can in the future! I see development here :)

E.M. Robie (Kissie) December 11, 2009 at 10:50 pm

It wasn't until I read this comment that I noticed the phrase “go giver”….how fitting.

E.M. Robie (Kissie) December 11, 2009 at 10:52 pm

I'm excited about the play on words!

Jim Hardin December 13, 2009 at 12:39 pm

Hi Brad
I just signed up with Blog Engage last night. I was reading another blog and they were talking about it also. I guess the word is getting out and it seems like a great service. Its easy and fast! I want to add the voting buttons like you have here.

Brad Harmon December 13, 2009 at 4:07 pm

I think you will really like Blog Engage. It is a very active community and very helpful. I am using the Blog Engage plugin to add my buttons. Some people prefer to do them manually; however, I don't trust my technical skills that much. ;)

bbrian017 December 14, 2009 at 1:03 am

I have been using the hash tags for a few weeks now! Ileane got me started on them and now look out lol! It's great to hear blogengage is your top referrer! You know I think it's the real life moderation of all members that makes our community to amazing,

Said in less words if I don't approve the members they can never submit to he site. This ensure a solid community of real bloggers. I'm not saying im picky but I do however ensure it's a real blogger like you and me.

This allows us to avoid spam account such as blogcatalog and mybloglog. Thousands of fake users but we have nothing lie that at B.E. With real people and real conversations we get and positive growing large community of bloggers.

With members such as Karl, Robert, will, Ileane and yourself it's just awesome! I wish I could say all their names but I cannot. You would have to look at my friends list for that.
My recent post Blog Engage Officially Added to Sexy Bookmarks

Brad Harmon December 14, 2009 at 2:08 am

It's a great community for sure. All of the other sites I submit to are pretty lifeless. You may be onto something with the live moderation; however, I think it has more to do with how involved you are in your community and their blogs.

Randy Adams December 26, 2010 at 7:59 am
