How Much Money Am I Making with Blog Engage?

Recently, I said “Goodbye Digg, Hello Blog Engage!” One of the reasons I made the change is that I get paid by Blog Engage to submit my posts.

I made the comment in that post that I wasn’t going to get rich from this, but it beat what Digg gave me.  Then I started wondering, “How will I know if I make anything at all?”

I am new to Google Adsense.  My account is only about 3 weeks old.  If you are looking for a Google Adsense guru, you are not reading the right post.  If you are new to this program like me, and are wondering how you can tell how much you are making from the Blog Engage AdSense Revenue Sharing Plan then keep reading.

What is the Blog Engage Revenue Sharing Plan?

Maybe you have not heard yet that you can make money by submitting your posts to Blog Engage.  Basically, you can earn up to 100% of the revenue generated by the Google AdSense ads that appear above your submitted blog post summary page.

Sounds pretty cool, right?  It’s something I was already doing, so this is just icing on the cake (don’t tell Brian though).  Now that we know how to become eligible for the revenue sharing, it’s time to answer our question.

Setting Up Google AdSense Channels

It turns out that the answer is pretty simple to determine.  Google Adsense has a reporting feature called a channel which lets you see the source from which your revenue is derived.

Navigate to the Google AdSense Channels Page

This assumes that you already have a Google AdSense account, and that you have added your pub number to your Blog Engage account.

• Log into your Google Adsense account.
• Select the AdSense Setup tab
• Then select Channels

Setting Up a Google AdSense URL Channel

You should see the image below on the Channel page.  We need to set up a URL channel to see our Blog Engage revenue.  Don’t worry.  It’s very easy.

How to Set Up a URL Channel:

1. Select AdSense for Content
2. Select +Add new URL channels hyperlink
   
3. Type in the URL address for Blog Engage in the box
4. Click on Add channels button
5. You’re done

That’s it!  You’ve just set up your first channel.  Told you it was easy.

Check Your Google AdSense Revenue by Channel

You should now be able to check your revenue by channel using any of the reports, but we will just look at the summary page.  It should look something like this.

The revenue you receive will show up in the AdSense for Content line.  The default for this line is to summarize the revenue of this type from all sources.  If you click on the top channels hyperlink you should see something like this.

Now you can see the channel we just set up.  I should point out that ads will often be over counted for channels on the same page.  Also, this screen shot was taken shortly after setting up these channels (about 45 minutes later).

The Answer to Our Question

We’ll there you have it.  The answer to how we can find out how much we are making from the Blog Engage AdSense Revenue is using a URL channel.

For the 45 minutes that this channel was active 3 people viewed my Blog Engage post submission summaries, but nobody clicked on an add.

One final note, when you view your own submission summaries your AdSense publisher number is not used.  It is only when others view it.
